World Spay Day

The CCSPCA will participate in the 2015 World Spay Day, an international campaign that promotes the life-saving benefits of spaying/neutering pets, on February 24 by performing 30 free spay/neuter surgeries on cats and dogs.

Appointments will be accepted and spay/neuter vouchers will be given to the first 30 owners who call the CCSPCA Small Animal Hospital beginning 9:00AM on Tuesday, February 17.  Pets must be at least 4 months old and current on vaccines or over 6 months old without vaccines.

Please be sure to ask about Zeuterin, our new non-surgical neutering for male dogs. The process is simple. The dog receives a physical exam, a mild sedative, and an injection of Zeuterin (zinc gluconate neutralized by arginine) in each testicle. It receives a small tattoo on its groin to show it has been sterilized, although it remains intact. The dog can resume activities in a short time.

Spaying and neutering pets is not only a proven way to reduce pet overpopulation, but altering pets increases their chances to live longer and healthier.  There are medical and behavioral advantages to spaying/neutering pets.  According to the American Veterinarian Medical Association (AVMA), spaying or neutering pets can dramatically reduce or eliminate the risk of developing certain types of cancers in both males and females. Additionally, altered dogs and cats are less likely to mark their territory; wander and become lost; get hit by cars while searching for mates, and are less likely to bite or become aggressive.

Since World Spay Day’s inception in 1995, it is conservatively estimated that participating organizations have spayed or neutered nearly two million animals. This year, Tuesday, February 24 is designated as World Spay Day with spay/neuter events taking place throughout the entire month.
