Our mission is to prevent cruelty to animals and promote the quality of life of all creatures through rescue, protection, placement, education, leadership and good example.

Your adoption includes:

1.      Spay or Neuter
Before your new pet can go home, he/she must be spayed (females) or neutered (males). This surgical procedure will render your pet incapable of producing litters of puppies or kittens. This may have already been done by your pet’s previous owner. In this case, your pet has already undergone a recovery period from this surgery. Otherwise, please follow all of the discharge instructions given to you when you pick up your pet. The Central California SPCA Surgery Annex Team will contact you when your pet is ready to be released.

2.      Micro-Chipping
This is a permanent form of identification that has bene placed under the skin of your pet at the location of the shoulder blades. It contaiuns a number sequence unique to your pet. We have collected your personal contact information and will register your new pet with the Home Again Microchip Company. If your pet becomes lost and is recovered by an animal care center or veterinary hospital, it will be scanned for the miccrochip and you will be contacted. If you move or your contact information changes, you must notify the Home Again Microchip Company (1-888-HOMEAGAIN or www.HomeAgain.com). For a small fee, they will change your information in their database. The Home Again website has many great resources for pet owners. The Central California SPCA encourages adopters to log on for more information regarding pet care.

3.      Vaccinations and Deworming
When your new pet first arrived at the CCSPCA, he/she was vaccinated and given a dewormer. Your pet will require further vaccinations and dewormers depending on several factors. Please refer to your paper work form the Surgery Annex and the section on Follow-up Veterinary Care for more infomration on vaccines, dewormers or any other treatments your pet will require in the future.

4.      Rabies Vaccination, License and Registration within Fresno City and County (dogs only)
All dogs in the state of California are required to be vaccinated for rabies. All dogs wthin Fresno City or unincorporated county areas are required to be vaccinated for rabies and licensed within 30 days of turning 4 months of age. If you live within our jurisdiction, you have already paid for your license with the adoption of your dog.
