UPDATE: Animals Seized from Miramonte Property Have Multiple Medical Issues

Update-Animals Seized from Miramonte Property Have Multiple Medical Issues

On February 8, 2018, 110 animals were seized from a property in Miramonte CA under penal code 597.1. The animals found, including 66 cats, 3 horses, and several dogs, were not receiving proper care.

All animals are currently undergoing medical testing by our veterinarian and medical staff. Thus far, we are rehabilitating a severely emaciated horse. We have also identified that most of the cats have multiple medical issues, including internal and external parasites and ear mites. Additionally, 60% of the cats tested so far have tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency virus (FIV).

Although FIV is similar to HIV and causes a feline disease that is similar to AIDS in humans, it is a highly species-specific virus that infects only felines and weakens their immune system. Many of the cats seized are fighting upper respiratory infections and are being given antibiotics. Click here for more info about FIV: https://www.avma.org/News/JAVMANews/Pages/s041501g.aspx

It is our goal to provide the best positive outcome for all of these animals. The care, testing, and treatments for these animals would not be possible without the public’s support and donations. For reference, the cost of testing and treatment for each cat is nearly $70. If you would like to help with the care of the animals in our custody, please consider donating to our Wellness Fund.
