Homeless Dog Picked for Search and Rescue Training

Kimmie (1)

Kirsten Fulk from Search Dog Foundation found a winner at our adoption center! Kimmie is a 2 year old Belgian Malinois who met all the qualifications to become a candidate for search dog training. If she completes her 6-8 month program, she will be partnered with a firefighter and join the ranks of the most highly trained search teams, on call to respond to disasters locally and across the nation.

Kimmie has passed the initial evaluation, and will have hip/elbow x-rays to ensure that she is capable for disaster search work for up to 10 years. Once cleared medically, she will be transported to SDF’s Prep Kennel in Valencia, CA for further evaluation by SDF trainers for 60 days. Once she passes this phase, she will then begin advanced canine search and rescue training where she will be reevaluated weekly. We wish Kimmie and Kristen the best of luck!
