An Evening of Whiskers, Wonder, and Delight

Posted on: December 14th, 2012 by CCSPCA

Whisker Wonderland CCSPCAThe magical Whisker Wonderland has returned to the Central California SPCA. On Saturday, December 8, from 5 to 9 p.m. Whisker Wonderland kicked off with a bang. Approximately 85 people attended opening night with their pets and children. We served wine and cheese for our guests to enjoy as they perused the lights, decorations, and activities. There was also other delicious homemade food for sale, as well as cold and warm beverages.

The main spectacle of the night was the Ku’uipo Hula dancers who performed Hawaiian dances depicting their holiday traditions. There were 11 female dancers who shimmied and shook their hips across the dance floor to beautiful Hawaiian music. We would like to thank them for joining us and their wonderful dancing exhibition.

Throughout the evening there were many activities for the children. We had a craft area where the children could choose if they wanted to paint a picture or construct an ornament. Some of the crafts were free or for $1 they could choose from 10 different ornaments to make. All the crafts are holiday related. There were also movies playing for the children to enjoy.

We also had a special appearance of Santa at Whisker Wonderland. All the children sat on his lap and whispered their wish list in his ear. Some were even lucky enough to get a picture with Santa and their pets. Santa gathered all the children around and had story time. All the children sat and listened with care as Santa read “The Little Mermaid and The Christmas Castle.” The Grinch was also caught sneaking about our Whisker Wonderland to the delight of many.

Whisker Wonderland is open every evening until December 23 from 5 to 9 p.m. There are only a few special evenings where Santa and his elves will appear. Those nights are Friday, Dec. 14, Saturday, Dec. 15, Friday, Dec. 21, and Saturday, Dec 22. Please come join us on those nights to take pictures with Santa! And don’t forget to bring your pets, too!

Big Adoption Times at the Big Fresno Fair

Posted on: October 30th, 2012 by CCSPCA

The Big Fresno Fair is not only the largest annual event in the Central Valley, it is the largest off-site adoption event for the CCSPCA. This year the staff had the thrill of sharing our new mobile unit, housing more animals in the air conditioned comfort that they enjoy.

The exhilaration grew each day as our adoption count climbed and smiling photos of adopting families rolled in. The honor of being a favorite fair attraction peaks when we have our adoption count shared in the “Fun Fair Facts” publication!

Vibrant yellow “Live, Love, Volunteer” T-Shirts shined brightly on the fairgrounds as our volunteers shared with visitors and potential adopters the wonderful individual attributes of our animals looking for homes.

Information about the much needed Community Outreach programs and services we offer was distributed to our visitors, such as low cost spay neuter, vaccine clinics, dog training, and animal abuse reporting.

The Big Fresno Fair allows animals that would not have the same “home finding” opportunity at our Animal Center a chance to showcase their endearing personalities to potential adopters. Fair-going families can make joint decisions together about adding a new member to their life.

This all culminated in 55 (yes, two more were adopted after we submitted our count to the Fair staff), animals finding new loving homes. There were many more animals adopted from our Animal Center as well, inspired by our booth at the Big Fresno Fair.

Please enjoy and share these photos with friends and family, then visit us in person next year at the Big Fresno Fair.

Neuter Day helps reduce strays!!

Posted on: October 5th, 2012 by CCSPCA

Stanley Neuter BoyOur Neuter Day on October 1st did prove to be Neuter-ific! Although not as many people showed up for their low cost neuter as we hoped, we did have many grateful families take advantage of saving money while doing the right thing for their pets.

Stanley is one of them, he was a kitten found on the streets, taken in by a caring family that wants to give him a lifetime of love including providing for his needs. Stanley did voice his opinion about being separated from his safety net , his home, while at the George Whittell Animal Hospital for his neuter, so he was really happy when his family picked him up that afternoon. Now Stanley will not have offspring that may not be as lucky as him to make it off the streets.

Of the 64 neuters that we had scheduled for Neuter Day, 33 did show up, 12 cats/kittens and 21 dogs/puppies. There are many families that would like to be able to spay or neuter their animals, and do need the low cost options to be able to do so. We hope to remind those that schedule for our next Spay Day or Neuter Day that your spot is important, valued and sought out by others. If for any reason you’re not able to make it in with your animal for sure on the surgery day, please allow another family to take your spot.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this neuter day a success in saving and bettering lives, please watch for the next Spay / Neuter Day coming soon!

Adoptions at the Big Fresno Fair

Posted on: October 3rd, 2012 by CCSPCA

The Big Fresno Fair starts October 3rd and the Central California SPCA will be there every day to help find homes for our animals. Last year we adopted out 60 animals to their forever homes. We are also at the fair to help raise funds for our animal center’s great programs such as Spay Fresno, Education, Foster Care and Cruelty/Neglect investigations.

We are looking forward to seeing many of you at the fair this year! Please stop by our booth, check out our wonderful new large Adoption Trailer, and say hello to us and our furry friends.

Please help us by spreading the word and making this year at the fair an adoption success!

Scottish Society Highland Games

Posted on: September 17th, 2012 by CCSPCA

The tradition continues with the grand adoptions from the Scottish Society’s Highland Games! We look so forward to this event, like we said, because we get the honor of visits from past adopters and their treasured companions. This year that all continued and we had many visitors to our new mobile unit that had many questions about the future. The really good thing about being out at events like this is that we get to answer anyone’s questions, face to face, and they can ask the questions that they are concerned about. The wide variety of animals that we are able to take out in our new unit allows each family to find what they have been looking for. We were not there long enough to set up before the first adoption took place, the appreciative adopter had been looking for just the right companion, and he found it in our little Cockapoo.

When a litter of 9 Lab blend puppies comes in through the doors, we worry about finding homes for them all, when we get to take 3 of them to an event like this and they all get adopted, we sigh deeply with hope and relief. The icing on the cake is the smile that the adopters have when they pose for a photo with their new companion.

We had multiple adoptions and went back to the animal center with much fewer animals, with many new stories, with a long list of animals and families to look forward to seeing next year, and now having more volunteers and staff used to “rapid fire” adoptions happening all at once!

One of our visitors gave us a lovely Scottish blessing at the beginning of our day, and it helped make it a memorable, successful adoption day. Thank you to everyone with the Scottish Society, and to all of the visitors at the Highland Games, for the animals, your voices rang true!!!

Scottish Society Highland Games 2012

Posted on: September 13th, 2012 by CCSPCA

We are off in the new mobile adoption unit on one of our favorite adventures, The Scottish Society’s Highland Gathering and Games! Each year we are thrilled for this event, pairing many of our Animal Center’s favorites with excited new families. We will have choices for all with animals of different ages, breeds, and personalities!
This is a great place to find hard working herding breeds looking for knowledgeable accepting homes. Families can enjoy a day of dancing, games, food, fun and maybe go home with a new furry friend. The other great experience we can hardly wait for is visiting with some of or animal friends that were adopted in years past and are now Highland Games regulars. Please come celebrate with us and enjoy a family gathering day in the park!!!
