Bailey’s Rescue: Cruelty and Abandonment to Rescue and Adoption

Posted on: February 13th, 2013 by CCSPCA

Animal Rescue

by Kristofer Schwetzer, Animal Control Officer

Bailey is a female German Shepard mix that came across some unfortunate circumstances. On January 12, 2013, the CCSPCA received a call from the Fresno Police Department requesting assistance at an apartment complex in southeast Fresno. The Fresno Police needed to conduct a welfare check at an apartment after the management notified them that the current tenant had been evicted. However, the management had not heard from the tenant and they could hear barking coming from inside the apartment. It was reported that the dog had been left in the apartment for at least one week, possibly two, with no care.

When a CCSPCA Officer arrived on scene, they found a very scared and malnourished Bailey. The Officer was able to gain Bailey’s trust and took her to the CCSPCA animal care center. The apartment had obviously been cleaned out. There was trash and feces all over the floor in every room. It appeared Bailey was surviving on whatever she could find to eat in the apartment. Bailey weighed 35 pounds and for her size should weigh at least 45 to 50 pounds.

A further investigation revealed that Bailey was a Service Dog and was well trained. Not to mention, she was very sweet, loves to play fetch, is leash trained and very intelligent; playful yet gentle. Bailey was cared for by the CCSPCA. She had contracted hook worm and kennel cough and was treated for both. A desperate attempt to locate the owner had failed. Bailey was taken out for walks and played with by CCSPCA staff on a daily basis. It was not too long before the entire staff at our animal care center fell in love with her.

After approximately a month of attempts to locate the owner of Bailey, it came time to come up with other options for her. Bailey had been a victim of a horrible crime of animal cruelty and abandonment. It was clear that the owner had no concern or intent to claim her. It was looking bleak for Bailey, but then her luck suddenly changed.

On February 9, 2013, a citizen of Fresno reported that his dog had passed on from old age. He and his wife were devastated. They are both in their 80’s and wanted a companion. The male citizen was a retired US Naval war Veteran. He and his wife were both animal lovers. It seemed as though fate may have changed for Bailey.

The citizen did not have any form of transportation, so Bailey was brought to the citizen’s residence at their request for a meet and greet. It was love at first sight. Bailey quickly bonded with her new Mom and Dad. Arrangements were made at the CCSPCA to get Bailey altered, cleaned, and groomed. Bailey has been rescued and adopted by this compassionate war hero and his loving wife.

Super Sunday Adoptions!

Happy adoption of Wheto!

Happy adoption of Kelso!

Happy adoption of Scooter!

Congratulations to three of our pets for getting adopted this past Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Mcintosh adopted one of our little pre-spays. They are thinking of naming him “Scooter,” but they are not too sure yet. They are full-time travelers so they will be taking their new little companion with them on the road.

The MacIntosh family also adopted today! They adopted “Wheto.” Wheto has been here since about November, so we are very happy he has been adopted. His new family has given him the name “Thor” and they say one of the reasons they adopted was because they feel he fits into their crazy little family.

“Kelso,” one of our foster pets, was also adopted by the Alvarado Family. They were very excited to get him home to meet his new sister.

Congratulations to our pets and their new families. We wish the very best for them!

Jazzy Jazmin – Happy Adoption Story

Posted on: January 12th, 2013 by CCSPCA

Special personalities can put a certain twinkle in your eye especially the eyes of our adoption agents. It is their passionate goal to find new homes for the animals in our care. They get to know the animals by spending time with them, photographing them, and promoting them. Jazmin had put that sparkle into one of our adoption agent’s eyes and that sparkle was passed along to an adoring adopting family.

Jazmin, now in her new home, seemed to know her fate rested in good hands as she posed for her “adopt me” photos by showing off her belly in faith of a bright future!

Suds finally finds a home, just in time for Thanksgiving!

Posted on: November 22nd, 2012 by CCSPCA

Suds has finally found her forever home this Thanksgiving! This Italian Greyhound came to us on July 12, 2012, and soon received the nickname “our summer girl.” Since then she has been a media star being spotlighted several times in hopes of finding a new home. She has been through so much these past few months. Her patience and spunky personality have certainly gotten her through these difficult times. She has watched kennel mate after kennel mate leave to go to their new homes, however this time she got to turn to her furry friends and wink as if to say “it’s my turn now.” We are all pinching ourselves to believe that it’s not a dream and wiping away our happy tears of joy because our little summer girl has finally found a good home. We now have this great gift to be thankful for. Suds we really love you and are thrilled you are finally home!
