Canine Flu

Canine Flu
The first case of Canine Influenza has permeated the Fresno Area. We are still in the midst of Flu season, and the CCSPCA wants to prevent as many dogs from contracting this serious disease. We are happy to announce that we are offering an affordable flu shot at our upcoming Super Low-Cost Vaccination clinic on February 21, 2018. Our vaccination is only $20 and helps protect your pooch from both strains of the virus (H3N2 & H3N8). As long as your dog is 8 weeks old, they are eligible to receive this vital vaccination. A booster shot is also required 3 weeks later in order to ensure full protection from the virus.

Canine influenza is transmitted through coughing, barking and sneezing. The virus can be spread indirectly through objects or people that have been in contact with infected dogs. Be sure to maintain a diligent cleaning schedule of your dog’s toys, leashes, and bowls, and wash your hands frequently as well. Common signs of canine influenza include lethargy, coughs, runny noses, fever, or a reduced appetite – though not all dogs show visible symptoms. Dogs who contract the virus usually recover in two to three weeks with appropriate veterinary care. If your dog shows signs of canine influenza, be sure to contact your vet.

Our monthly Super Low-Cost Vaccination Clinics are held during the first and third Wednesdays of every month from 8 AM-12 PM, and vaccinations are offered at a first come, first served basis. Besides the new Canine Influenza shot, we offer dog and cat vaccines, microchips, flea/tick preventative, and deworming for extremely low costs. If you’re a city of Fresno resident, we also have our licensing department available for your convenience.
