Juan Montesinos Sentenced With Felony for Animal Cruelty

On Monday, January 29, 2018, Juan Bernardo Montesinos was sentenced with a Felony charge of animal cruelty. He pled guilty to Penal Code 597(b) and was given two years’ probation, 30 days to complete the Adult Offender Work Program, 10 years without animal ownership rights, and must pay the CCSPCA restitution charges.

The origins of this case date back to July 23, 2015, when Mr. Montesinos told our Humane Officers that his dog, Peter, was hit by a car in front of his home seven months prior. Peter was left untreated, thus, his leg was unable to heal. He coat was noticeably unkempt and showed signs of infection, too.

Peter was taken to the CCSPCA and was given several treatments to rid his skin infection and after numerous attempts to rehabilitate his hind leg, our veterinary staff performed an amputation. Following a speedy recovery, Peter was adopted into a new forever family on June 1, 2016 and is living his best life on three legs!

Though Peter spent months suffering, it is a relief that he was able to have a happy ending.
