We wanted to share with you the Powerpoint presentation that was given to the City Council on Thursday, September 21, by CCSPCA Executive Director, Linda Van Kirk. The purpose of the presentation was to provide an overview of the various components of animal control services provided by CCSPCA as called for in the current city contract. Most of the statistics used were for the fiscal year 2015/16.

Slides 26-33, were included to help everyone understand just how Fresno’s animal control services compare to other statewide animal control agencies and organizations. A survey was conducted that used a previous similar survey done by Oakland Animal Services in 2013 of the top 10 cities in California. Using their survey as a base, we reached out to more than 40 entities. To date, we have received 30 responses and more are expected.

Data collected includes such items as animal control budgets, animal intake, number of strays, live release rates, shelter locations, number of ACOs and staff, salary ranges, calls for services, and spay/neuter laws. We made no attempt at data analysis for the presentation, as we only wanted to share our findings.

The presentation concluded by inviting the council to come visit our animal care center for a tour, as we’d love to share our animals and their stories. We also invited them to participate in ride-a-longs with an ACO for a first hand experience of animal control.

We would also like to share a local reporter, George Hostetter’s, article about the workshop: http://www.cvobserver.com/fresno/councilwatch-recycling-centers-get-knocked-spca-gets-soria-treatment/. We appreciate his comments and courtesy toward our organization and efforts in helping our homeless pet population.
