Josie Clark is a dedicated CCSPCA volunteer. She volunteers an average of 50 hours a week at our organization and is here almost every day! She began volunteering in 2012 after her experience with a unique story about a turtle.
One morning as Clark was leaving for work she noticed something odd in the gutter across from her house. She walked over and saw that this odd shaped thing was in fact a turtle. She didn’t want it to get hurt, so she picked it up and placed him in her bathtub until she could return from work. When she got home she did some research and realized that it was an endangered turtle that primarily resides in the foothills. She contacted the CCSPCA and released the turtle to us. Since she was at our shelter location, she decided to look around to see what the CCSPCA was all about. She returned several times to “browse” and then fell in love with a red eared slider turtle. She adopted the turtle and has rescued six other turtles. After the first adoption she quickly decided that volunteering for the CCSPCA is something she wanted to do. Since then, she has dedicated many hours to our organization.
Clark volunteers for one simple reason: gratification she gets knowing that she is doing something worthwhile. According to Linda Stolling, CCSPCA Volunteer Services Manager, Josie does the work of one full-time employee.
“We couldn’t do what we do without her,” Stolling said.
Clark volunteers with nearly every department. She walks dogs, does laundry, washes dishes, cleans kennels, helps set up and break down at our offsite adoption events and trains other volunteers. She is someone the other volunteers look up to and ask for guidance.
“It’s just my nature to be a leader. I am a can-do person,” Clark said.
She plans on continuing her volunteer work with the CCSPCA. Her main piece of advice for future volunteers is “make sure it’s something you want to do because it’s not all about the cute and cuddly.”
Thank you Josie Clark, for your dedicated service and time spent volunteering with the CCSPCA.
