On September 2, 2015 one of our Humane Officers responded to a call about a Siberian Husky covered in open, weeping wounds. When the officer arrived on the scene she found that the dog’s body was mostly covered in open, hairless sores; some of them bleeding. The Siberian Husky was very apprehensive, skittish, and scared. It took our officer over 40 minutes to catch him. Neighbors stated that the dog had those sores for over three months. The officer immediately had our veterinarian assess the condition of the dog. This Siberian Husky was suffering from a severe case of Demodex Mange. Demodex is an extraordinarily painful, itchy skin condition that has left the husky with major hair loss and raw, red lesions susceptible to infection over most of its body. We placed him on an antibiotic regimen and medicated baths. However, he still remained skittish and scared of people. After several months in our care, we decided it would be best for his health and temperament to place him in a specific Siberian Husky rescue organization where they could give him extra care and training.
