On Tuesday, April 10, 2018, two of our Humane Officers were dispatched to Lancaster, California to assist the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) in the serving of a warrant for a large illegal cockfighting operation. Nearly 1,000 birds were seized on the property, along with several dogs, and other farm animals. No arrests have been made, but the investigation is ongoing.
spcaLA recognized the hard work of our Humane Officers and personally contacted the CCSPCA to assist with the raid and seizure. We would like to thank spcaLA, their Humane Officers, and their Disaster Animal Response Team, as well as the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Community Partnerships Bureau for this opportunity. We look forward to collaborating with them in the future for the protection and rescue of animals.
Cockfighting is a brutal blood sport where the roosters are forced to fight, often to the death for the entertainment and financial gain of their owners. The CCSPCA is proud to lend our expertise in animal fighting and collection to local and neighboring authorities. It is a high priority to put an end to this disturbing activity, and secure justice for the animal victims.
To report local animal cruelty, call (559) 233-7722 or visit Central California SPCA.
You can also call the national tip line (877) TIP-HSUS to report dogfighting or cockfighting and receive a $5,000 reward for information leading to arrest and conviction of an animal fighter.
