Mike Oliver is another one of our extremely dedicated volunteers. Mike is always in a good mood and loves interacting with dogs. Mike has been a volunteer since he retired from the Fresno Police Department, about one and a half years ago. While working as a police officer, he would often work with the CCSPCA on cases. After considering all the community benefit organizations to volunteer for, he chose the CCSPCA. He wanted to thank us for our services by giving back and volunteering to help this community.
Mike has cultivated a fun and unique relationship with the Notown Roller Derby and the CCSPCA. He often attends the Notown Roller Derby home games, sets up an education table and sometimes brings along an adorable adoptable. He hands out literature about the CCSPCA services and talks to attendees about the CCSPCA , what we offer and how they can help.
His favorite part about volunteering is working with the dogs on socialization issues to get them ready for adoption. He spends most of his time walking the dogs, giving them lots of love and attention which helps the dogs understand that they can rebuild trust with humans and other animals.
“It’s really rewarding volunteering for the CCSPCA,” Mike said. He loves to see when one of the dogs he has been working with gets adopted. What he appreciates about us is that we are a “user-friendly place”. The volunteer department doesn’t push you to do more than what you are willing to do and won’t ask you volunteer more time than you are willing to give.
Thank you, Mike, for all your hard work and dedication to the animals here at the CCSPCA.
